This review in Die Welt Online of Thomas Blubacher’s new book Paradies in schwerer Zeit - Kuenstler und Denker im Exil in Pacific Palisades concludes by citing Thomas Mann’s notorious jibe at LF:

Edgar F. comments: “The Mann family at one time had a low opinion of [Lion’s work]. They later rather changed their tune, as witness TM’s article in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung on the occasion of Lion’s 70th birthday in 1954. But by that time and on a human level Lion and his wife Marta had got closely involved with the difficult dynamics of the Mann family, particularly with Golo and with Heinrich and Nelly.”
